Call for Entries DOCSDF 2012
7th INTERNATIONAL DOCUMENTARY FILM FESTIVAL OF MEXICO CITY
1. DOCSDF 2012, 7th International Documentary Film Festival of Mexico City will take place from November 8th to 18th, 2012.
2. Each participant may present one or more documentaries to the following competitive categories:
- Best International Long Feature Documentary
- Best Mexican Long Feature Documentary
- Best Ibero-American Documentary
- Best International Short Documentary
- Best Mexican Short Documentary
- Best Documentary made for Television
REGISTRATIONS
3. Each participant may present one or more documentaries. For this, an online entry form must be filled in at www.docsdf.org and afterwards two copies of the film in DVD must be sent to the following address:

4. The registration has no cost.
5. The deadline for registering documentaries is:
March 23rd, first call for entries
April 30th, second call for entries
The shipping date will be taken into consideration.
6. The production date of the documentaries must be subsequent to January 1st, 2011.
7. The documentaries presented for Best Short Documentary Film can’t exceed 30 minutes of length. If they do, can compete in the other categories.
8. The documentaries presented for the category Best Documentary made for Television, must have been produced or coproduced by, or for a TV broadcaster, regardless of having been broadcasted or not.
9. The documentaries which language is neither Spanish nor English should be subtitled to any of these languages.
10. Under any circumstances, the DVD vision copies will be returned, and they will become part of the Festival’s video library, meaning they could be used for cultural purposes only and always within DOCSDF’s framework, with previous acknowledgement of those interested.
SELECTION
11. If the documentary is selected, it will be notified to the person who made the registration. In this notification, they will be informed of the shipping instructions for the projection copy and required additional material.
12. DOCSDF members and experts in Documentary Film will be part of the Selection Committee, who will perform their job according to the quality and creativity parameters previously settled by the Festival’s Direction.
13. The Selection Committee reserves the right to switch a presented work to another category if they find it convenient, always with previous
acknowledgement of those interested.
PARTICIPATION
14. The projection copy of the selected titles should be sent not later than 20 days after receiving the notification.
14.1 After the Official Selection is notified, the selected Works will receive instructions regarding the digital formats and required materials for the participation.
15. If the Production Company, or the person who registered the documentary doesn’t have a NTSC formatted copy, the subtitles, or both, DOCSDF can provide these services with an additional fee. (More information at www.docsdf.org).
16. The selected entries must send along with the projection copy or electronically:
- two images of the film (720 x 480 y 300 DPIs)
- Synopsis (120-150 words) for it’s reproduction in the catalogue and must provide:
- the informative material (press kit), which will be distributed to the media during the Festival, along with other promotional material. (dossier, posters, post cards, etc.).
17. All the shipping expenses of the material will be covered by those interested. DOCSDF won’t be responsible of the possible damages the material could suffer during the shipping.
18. The following caption must be clearly appointed in every shipping package
“Festival with no commercial value, only for cultural purposes”.
19. The Festival’s organization assumes that the producers or filmmakers who register works for the competition, own the exhibit right of the presented works, exempting the Festival of any legal responsibilities, penal and mercantile.
20. The documentaries that are on postproduction will be accepted only if the final copy’s reception is guaranteed under this rules’ appointed deadlines. This guarantee will be made through a commitment letter, which will be provided by the festival.
21. DOCSDF will not pay for screening fees.
JURORS
22. The jury will be conformed by recognized personalities from the cultural and visual industries. The members of the jury will be announced before the Festival’s kick off.
23. The member of the jury may not participate in any of the categories.
24. Any member of the DOCSDF organizational Committee shall be part of the jury.
25. The jury’s decision is beyond dispute.
FINAL CLAUSE
26. The presentation of films implies the total acceptance of these guidelines. Their interpretation and application corresponds to the Festival’s organization.
